Finally we have come to the end of the "article". As you may have noticed, all the changes that have occurred have been happening slowly. This all builds up to what we consider fashion today. I am so glad that I am not restricted to just wearing a dress, I mean, how many of us love pants? It has taken women in general through a long process to be able to dress the way that they feel comfortable.

Until the next update, we'll see each other soon!

                THE TRUE FLASHBACK…

Apparently, the seventies are influencing this year’s spring/summer fashion shows. Fashion has been taking a trip down memory lane this season.

The seventies were a time of choas and revolution. It was a time of emancipation and freedom. Women in particular were slowly gaining more freedom. The upheavel of this era influenced it’s fashion. Many regard this time as the period of history where fashion forgot what good taste was. The main fashion themes in this era were polo necks and long boots. A time of demin jackets and high-wasted pants.

These fashion trends were all the rage during this year’s spring/summer fashion shows. Nicolas Ghesquière brought hacking jackets and polo neck combos paired with PVC trousers and white frill collared shirts sitting below knitted pullovers to fashion week for his debut at Louis Vuitton. The Spring 2015 Max Mara collection also sported seventies styles ranging from roomy jumpsuits to head to toe print this included hats and footwear. Candy colours were all over the place and flared pants made an appearance too. All the hallmarks of the seventies period in a 21th century fashion show…A True Flashback!

Put Your Best Boot Forward...

Grunge is in this season, and with that comes Grungy Biker Boots! Doc Martens and Combat Boots have been dominating the fashion world for the past few months. With their variety of colours and styles it’s no wonder everyone is wearing these stylish shoes!

Katy Perry

Miley Cyrus

Willow Smith

Selena Gomez

These boots are back from the 90’s, where they were worn by all the bad boys and rock bands as their first shoes of choice. No 90’s outfit was complete without a pair of trendy Doc Martens or Combats.

John Bender in “The Breakfast Club”

Nowadays, not only guys wear these punk-loving, classic boots, girls do too! They give a grunge edge to virtually anything, including leggings, shorts, skirts and dresses.
These boots can create a variety of different looks: to form a shocking contrast, pair your boots with a soft, feminine dress or skirt. To go for the biker look toughen them up with skinny jeans and a biker jacket. The appealing ‘graceful grunge’ look can be created by sporting your boots with a flowing dress, chunky knitwear jersey and black tights.
In the end, no matter what you pair them with, these fashionable boots will give you the ultimate grunge, grime and glamour look.

Fairy tales

Fairy tales of the past are much crueller and darker than the stories we all know and love today. The main feature of these fairy tales is get across an important rule or moral by making it something that is memorable and tangible. For example, in the original version of Cinderella, she kills her stepmother so that her father can marry the housekeeper. The end only brings more bad news for Cinderella because the stepmother moves in with her six daughters. So Cinderella is once again left with all the housework. Despite the dark side of this fairy tale, it puts across the moral that you should be careful that what you wishes for.

Today, fairy tales have an important newer message. For example, the Disney Cinderella tells us that with a good heart, good things will come. Fairy tales are not about the dresses or the tiaras. They are not even about the prince on his white horse. It is about creating a space where anything is possible. An escape from a world a lot crueller than all the evil queens combined. To give us hope of a better future. A chance to see the world through rose tinted glasses. This is why we all love fairy tales.

As the term comes to a much anticipated end, let’s take a quick glance back at some notable events which took place in the month of June.

June is the birth month of the iconic Marilyn Monroe.  Born as Norma Jean Mortensen in Los Angeles on 1 June 1926, Marilyn started out in Hollywood as a model before hitting the big time and starring in movies such as “Some Like it Hot” and “The Misfits”. She became one of the main celebrities to be frequently used in the artworks of pop artist Andy Warhol.
Marilyn was known for her flawless features and voluptuous curves, both of which contributed to her image as international sex symbol.
Marilyn was the face of Chanel Number 5 for a period of time.  Her performance of the song “Diamonds are a Girl’s best friend” was the most memorable rendition of the song and the title soon became a catch phrase and then life motto for some.

Her perfectly coiffed hairdo and pouting red lips have been the style inspiration for those seeking a classy yet sexy look. This, along with her killer dresses and charming personality made Marilyn Monroe an unforgettable figure in our history.

June proves to be a month for female power as the first woman entered space on June 16, 1963. Valentina Tereshkova, 26, took off in her Soviet spacecraft, Vostok 6, and she manually controlled the spacecraft completing 48 orbits in 71 hours before landing safely on planet Earth. Thanks for taking one for team Tina!
June is also the birth month of Prince William. Born 21st June 1982, Prince William will prove to be the heart-throb for the masses around the globe up until the age of 25 when we began to notice that his once coveted head of hair was beginning to show signs of balding.

Till next month!
